Benefits of Meditation

The rising popularity of meditation classes across the world can be attributed to growing awareness of the numerous physical, mental, and emotional benefits associated with the practice. As our modern lives become increasingly fast-paced and stressful, people are seeking effective ways to manage stress, enhance well-being, and foster personal growth. Grounded in a tradition meant for people living in the world, our approach to meditation is one that enhances our daily lives and allows us a deeper connection to our true Self and to everyone and everything.

Research on meditation has demonstrated a range of benefits, including:

  • Reduced stress: Studies have shown that meditation can significantly reduce cortisol levels, the hormone responsible for stress, with one study reporting a reduction of 31% after an 8-week mindfulness-based stress reduction program.

  • Enhanced emotional well-being: Regular meditation practice has been linked to improved emotional regulation and reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression. A meta-analysis of 47 studies found that meditation programs showed moderate evidence of reducing anxiety and depression symptoms.

  • Improved cognitive function: Meditation has been associated with increased attention, memory, and cognitive flexibility. A study by the University of California found that participants who completed an 8- week meditation program demonstrated significant improvements in their ability to sustain attention compared to a control group.

  • Better physical health: Regular meditation can also improve physical health by reducing blood pressure, managing chronic pain, and improving sleep quality. A systematic review of 12 studies reported that meditation is associated with lower blood pressure levels.

As more people become aware of these benefits through scientific research and anecdotal evidence, meditation classes continue to grow in popularity, providing accessible guidance and support to individuals seeking to cultivate a regular practice and enhance their overall well-being.

Despite the profound benefits that meditation can have on our mental and physical wellbeing, the vast majority of meditative practices are rooted in monastic traditions. This training is grounded in a tradition meant for those living in the world, not for monks or nuns. As such, there is a very accessible and down to earth approach to meditation as a whole. This tradition perfectly speaks to the modern practitioner, acknowledging the complexity that come with living and thriving in the world.

Some prior experience with meditation (of any kind) is expected. This is an intensive training, requiring full commitment Monday through Saturday for two weeks. 100% participation is required to receive certification.
